The City Safety™ system on the Volvo XC60 is an innovative offering that stays alert to any sign of an impact from a possible collision. You'll be better prepared to stop on time, thanks to its warnings and braking if there are other vehicles, a pedestrian, or wildlife in your path.  

In the event that you cross into an adjacent lane while another car is approaching, Oncoming Lane Mitigation will work to send you a warning and steer the car adeptly back to where you're supposed to be. Lane Keeping Aid works similarly and makes sure that you are staying within your given lane at all times.

Volvo XC60 IntelliSafe Surround

More safety technology can be found in the BLIS™ blind spot information with Steer Assist. Merging lanes is made easier, as this system watches out for vehicles in your blind spot. To bolster its functions further, this system can also work with your steering to guide your vehicle as needed.

To catch anything that may be behind your vehicle, Cross Traffic Alert with auto-brake will be there as you reverse. Should another vehicle be driving past you, this system can apply pressure on the brakes of your vehicle and make you aware of the other driver.

In the same vein, Rear Collision Warning will work as you're actually driving to help prevent another vehicle from hitting you. It will use the hazard lights to alert the other driver or bring your vehicle to a stop.

Volvo XC60 Safety Ratings

The Volvo XC60 received great accolades from both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These organizations perform different crash tests on various models in order to see how they live up to their safety features.

The IIHS gave the City Safety™ system a Superior overall rating for its effectiveness in a low-speed impact. In both frontal and side crash tests, all of the injury measures came back with the highest rating of Good. This shows that the safety mechanisms that have been put in place are sufficiently doing their job to help avoid injuries during a crash. 

From the NHTSA, the Volvo XC60 received a 5-Star Safety Rating for all of its powertrain options. Whether you choose the standard T5 Front Wheel Drive (FWD), the available T5 All Wheel Drive (AWD), or the T6 AWD, you will have sufficient safety on your side.
