Testing Your Battery With a Voltmeter

Testing your car battery is a good procedure to know so that you can have an idea of whether or not you need a new battery before you visit our dealership in Huntsville. Use a voltmeter and do this simple voltage test the next time your car doesn't start.

Battery Voltage Test

Set your voltmeter to measure volts and make sure the ignition is off. Touch the positive and negative test leads to the positive and negative terminals on the battery. The reading should be at 12.4 volts or higher if the battery is still good. Keep in mind that the battery isn't the only reason why your car won't start; you can also test your starter and alternator with a voltmeter.
