Getting Ready to Jump Start Another Car

When your car battery dies, you can try getting it going again with a jump start from a running car. As long as you have jumper cables, these steps are simple enough for you to try on your own.

Line the car hoods up so that they are facing each other. Pop the hoods to access the battery terminals. The red positive clamps belong with the positive battery terminals, and the black negative clamps should be attached to the negative battery terminals.

After they are connected, avoid touching metal under the hood. Start the engine of the working car in order to give the dead battery a temporary boost of power. One minute should be long enough for the dead battery to get enough juice. Start your engine to see if it turns on. Leave it running if it does. Have your car battery inspected or replaced at Century Volvo Cars.
